What went wrong in a semifinal battle for Real Madrid in champions league.

Part of the problem Mourinho did not stay with his defensive style of play and he started crowding midfield to suffocate Barca midfield. But Barca has immense talent in midfield if you crowd them, they will make sure you reduce to 10 players like what happened in first game.
They have likes Of  Messi, David Villa , Xavi and Pedro very skilled players in midfield and to suffocate them is real hard and part of the issue is they have been together since long time, they can play like a team football unlike Real Madrid most of the players are quite new in uniform.
Another issue is Kaka’s  form and injury, If he is totally healthy it could be different story, he can create all kind of problems for Barca and with Ronaldo upfront.

Mourinho has always had everything his own way, winning title after title, game after game! He is a multi-Champions League winning manager, more notably when he led Porto to Champions League success in 2004. Standing in his way was Pep Guardiola, the former Barcelona player and manager of the Barca side.
Behind every successful venture lies a shrewd brain. The evolution of FC Barcelona from just another very good team in Europe to the most devastating opposition in recent times, is no accident.
Inheriting Frank Rijkaard's side, Pep Guardiola managed to re-build the Johan Cryuff philosophy, making them work hard, train harder and subsequently play beautiful football week in week out..
For me the biggest problem was that Real had no cohesion to their play. They rely on star players like Ronaldo and Ozil to deliver a moment of brilliance to win them the game, whereas Barca play completely as a team. Eight of the guys have come through the youth ranks and have been playing together for years and years.

Real, on the other hand, keep buying big-name players, but it takes a while for them to gel. Look at Barca - they made two big signing this season - Villa to replace the rubbish Ibrahimovic, and Mascherano. Their buying is strategic, whereas I often feel Real just buy to prove a point. What went wrong is that while barca is a complete team cause of their togetherness for a while, Madrid is just a new team so to say, Mourinho should have stood to his usual defensive style.

Nothing is lost though as they(Real) won Spanish championship, next year it will be more a battle between coaches than players itself, keep your finger cross.
